Conferment of the Title of Honorary Freeman of the Metropolitan Borough of St Helens

To consider the following Motion, to be proposed by Councillor Baines and seconded by Councillor Gomez-Aspron MBE that: 

 

1)         in pursuance of Section 249 of the Local Government Act, 1972, the

            Honorary Freedom of the Borough be conferred on:

 

i)               Marie Rimmer CBE MP for services to the borough of St Helens;

ii)              James Roby for services to the borough of St Helens and Rugby

     League; and

iii)             Michael Smith for services to the borough of St Helens and darts;

 

2)          the Common Seal of the Council be affixed to the Enrolment of the   

             above on the said Freeman’s Roll and to the scroll to be presented to          

             them on their admission as Honorary Freemen of the Metropolitan

             Borough of St Helens; and

 

3)        there be delegated to the Chief Executive, in consultation with the 

           Leader of the Council, all the powers of the Council to make the  

           necessary arrangements to confer the awards.

 

To consider the following Motion, to be proposed by Councillor Clarke and Seconded by Councillor Gomez-Aspron MBE that: 

 

1)         in pursuance of Section 249 of the Local Government Act, 1972, the

            Honorary Freedom of the Borough be conferred on:

 

i)                The Duke of Lancaster’s Regiment in recognition of the distinguished and eminent services rendered to the Borough and the nation by the Regiment and to record the high esteem in which the Regiment is held by the Council and the residents of the Borough and the Council grants to The Duke of Lancaster’s Regiment and its successors for all time the right, privilege and honour of marching through the streets of the Borough of St Helens on ceremonial occasions with swords drawn, bayonets fixed, drums beating, bands playing and guidon flying;

 

2)        the Common Seal of the Council be affixed to the Enrolment of the

           above on the said Freeman’s Roll and to the scroll to be presented to

           them on their admission as Honorary Freeman of the Metropolitan

           Borough of St Helens; and

 

3)       there be delegated to the Chief Executive, in consultation with the 

          Leader of the Council, all the powers of the Council to make the  

          necessary arrangements to confer the awards.
